Reflexology is a science based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet relative to every organ, gland and part of the body.
The art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt. In 1913, a medical doctor, Dr. William Fitzgerald, introduced this therapy to the West as "zone therapy". He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. When pressure is applied to a certain reflex point in a zone, stimulation is sent to a corresponding organ or gland.
Stimulating the reflexes increases nerve and blood supply, relieves tension, and helps the body to balance itself.
Reflexology is not a substitute to a medical examination, diagnosis or any other medical care. A reflexologist does not treat, diagnose or prescribe.
